winter is coming

It seems like just a little while ago that I was noticing squirrells losing their winter fur, and now they're all cute and furry and plump again. Time goes fast, and for some reason I'm measuring it by squirrels. It's probably a symptom of being on a college campus. You'd think there are better ways to notice that winter is coming, like a calendar... But squirrels are so much cuter.

Now for (dark, not sugary) hot chocolate and a book in celebration of winter. I wonder how hot chocolate is in London? Or France?

I figured it was about time to write something again.

Connie and I are trying to come up with a recipe for the perfect egg tarts and so far we have failed, though not miserably. Our attempts taste good but just aren't quite right. The pastry is not flaky enough and resembles a pie crust more than anything, probably because recipes are not usually written for Asian people, since they somehow manage to do it by instinct. Egg tart making instinct. Hmmm... I think I wasn't born with it, but I do have the recognize-a-good-egg-tart instinct. Oh well, we will get there eventually. Another few attempts. But next week...pumpkin pie!
I tried another Chinese restaurant here in Berkeley with Connie and Mike. It was okay but still not as good as Yea's Wok. It's quite surprising how hard it is to find good Chinese food in Berkeley considering how many Chinese people are here. Last I checked, the campus is over 40% Asian. Afterwards we went and "studied" for a few hours at the International House cafe. They have nice sturdy wooden tables.
I've gotten a look at the first drafts of the articles I'm editting for The Triple Helix (thetriplehelix.org if you're interested) and editting them has been fun and somewhat enlightening. I'm definately looking forward to reading the next drafts.
